What is 'ad creative', and how much does it cost to produce?
"Ad creative" is the actual images, video, headlines, and copy people see in an ad — as distinct from targeting, budget, and placement, which sit at a different level of the campaign. There's no honest single price for producing it: cost depends far more on production style and how many versions you need than on which platform it runs on.

What exactly counts as "creative"?
Meta's own structure separates a campaign into three levels: the campaign (objective), the ad set (budget and targeting), and the ad itself — where the creative lives. Google's ad platforms define creative the same way: "the ad served to users... images, videos, audio, and other formats." Creative is specifically the asset, not the strategy around it.
So how much does it actually cost?
There's no reliable, honestly-sourced general price range for ad creative — costs for a freelancer, an agency, or an in-house shoot vary too widely to state one number without misleading you. What genuinely drives the cost:
- Production style — a studio shoot with lighting and crew costs far more than phone-shot, UGC-style content
- Length and complexity — a 6-second static image is cheaper than a 30-second edited video
- Number of variations — testing 5 versions of a hook costs more than shipping one "final" ad
- Licensing — paid talent, music, or stock footage add real cost on top of production time
Do I need new creative for every platform?
Not necessarily the same file, but usually the same asset resized and re-cut — a vertical video for TikTok and Instagram Reels, cropped differently for Facebook Feed. Planning creative once, then adapting it, is cheaper than producing separately for every placement.
