What does 'Boost Post' mean, and how is it different from running ads properly?
Boosting is the "Boost Post" button under one of your own posts — a fast, simplified way to pay to show it to more people. Meta's own comparison is direct: boosted posts have fewer targeting and placement options than a real campaign, and are built mainly to grow likes, comments, shares, and awareness, not sales.

What can each one actually do?
| Boosted Post | Ads Manager campaign | |
|---|---|---|
| Optimizes for | Page likes, comments, shares, awareness | App installs, website conversions, video views, shop orders, and more |
| Targeting & placements | Limited — check/uncheck a short list | Full control, including Messenger, Stories, WhatsApp Status, Audience Network |
| Budget & reporting | Basic | Full campaign creation, budget rules, and performance metrics |
Meta states this plainly: "Campaign creation, budget settings and performance metrics are only available in Ads Manager."
So which one should I use?
Boosting fits a narrow case: a post that's already performing well organically, where you just want more eyes on it quickly, with no real need to measure return. The moment the goal is leads, sales, or website traffic you can actually measure, Meta's own tools point you to Ads Manager instead — it's built for exactly that, with the targeting and reporting boosting doesn't have.
