How much do Instagram ads cost, and are they worth it?

Instagram ads run on Meta's ad auction, the same system as Facebook — there's no fixed price list, and Meta's own guidance recommends starting from at least $1/day for impression-based ad sets. What you actually pay per result depends on your bid, your audience, and how relevant Meta judges your ad to be, not a number set in advance.

What's the real starting budget?

Meta's own minimum-budget guidance sets $1/day as the baseline for ad sets charged by impressions. If you're using a Cost Cap bidding strategy instead — trying to hold your cost per result near a target — Meta recommends a daily budget at least 5 times that cap, so targeting a $5 cost per result needs roughly $25/day to give the auction room to work.

Why does cost per result vary so much between businesses?

Meta's auction weighs your bid against how relevant your ad is to the person seeing it — a highly relevant ad to the right audience typically costs less per result than a generic one shown broadly. Competition for your audience (industry, season, how many other advertisers want the same people) moves the price too.

So — are Instagram ads worth it?

That depends entirely on what a result is worth to you, not on a price you read online. The honest way to judge it: track your actual cost per result in Ads Manager, compare it to your average sale value and close rate, and decide from there — the same real ad, at the same cost, can be a clear win for one business and a loss for another.
