Is Instagram enough, or does my business need a website?

Instagram is enough to start a business in Kuwait, but not enough to grow safely. You don't control your Instagram account, Google and AI tools like ChatGPT mostly answer from websites, and Meta now sends Shop buyers to your own website to pay. Most growing businesses need both.

When is Instagram enough?

  • You're testing an idea or running a small home business
  • Orders happen by WhatsApp or DM, not online payment
  • Customers already find you through word of mouth

Instagram reaches a huge audience here: 3.00 million people in Kuwait, or 73.3% of adults (DataReportal, Digital 2026).

When do I need a website?

  • You want to be found on Google or ChatGPT. Google says its AI features use the same basics as normal search: pages it can crawl, with useful text.
  • You want online payments. KNET gateways like MyFatoorah and Tap connect to websites and stores.
  • You sell with Instagram Shops. Since 2025, Meta sends Shop buyers to your website to check out.
  • You run ads seriously. A website lets you use the Meta Pixel to track real sales.
  • You want a backup. If your account is hacked or restricted, your website and customers are still there.

Instagram only vs Instagram + website

Instagram only Instagram + website
Found on Google Rarely Yes
Quoted by ChatGPT Rarely Yes, with good pages
KNET payments Manual links Built in
Ad tracking Limited Full, with the Pixel
If the account is lost You start again Customers can still reach you

What's the smallest website that works?

A one-page landing page with what you sell, your prices, your areas, a WhatsApp button, and a free Google Business Profile pointing to it. That's often enough to start showing up.

Quick follow-ups

  • Not in a way you control. Meta retired in-app checkout for Facebook and Instagram Shops in 2025, so Shop buyers are sent to the seller's own website to pay.
