How do I install the Meta Pixel on my website?
Open Meta Events Manager, click Connect data, choose Web, enter a name and click Create pixel. Then connect it to your site — either through your platform's built-in integration, or by adding Meta's code snippet to your site's header.

What is it actually doing?
Meta describes the pixel as a snippet of JavaScript that loads a small library of functions, letting you record actions visitors take on your website. Those recorded actions are what let you:
- see which ad produced a sale, not just a click
- optimise campaigns toward purchases instead of traffic
- build retargeting audiences from visitors
- build lookalike audiences from buyers
Without it, Meta is guessing, and so are you.
The steps
- In Events Manager, click Connect data and select Web.
- Click Connect, name the pixel, and click Create pixel.
- Choose your install method — platform integration if your store offers one, otherwise the code.
- Add your key events, at minimum purchase or lead.
- Test it. Trigger a real action and confirm it appears in Events Manager.
Common mistakes
- Installing it and never setting events. A pixel with no purchase event can't optimise for purchases.
- Two pixels on one site. Duplicate events, unusable numbers.
- Installing it the week you launch ads. Audiences only start filling from install day — put it on now, even if ads are months away.
- Assuming it's accurate. Browser and privacy settings mean some events never arrive. Cross-check against your real orders, as explained in how to track which sale came from which ad.
Once it's collecting, it's what powers retargeting and custom and lookalike audiences.
