What is influencer marketing, and how do I start?
Influencer marketing is paying someone with an audience to talk about you, so you borrow their trust rather than buying attention cold. The part most businesses miss is that a good creator post can also be run as your own ad — which is usually where the real return is.

What are you actually buying?
| You're buying | You're not buying |
|---|---|
| Trust that transfers to you | Guaranteed sales |
| Content you can reuse | Ownership, unless agreed |
| Reach into a specific audience | Control over the comments |
What does Meta require?
Meta's help centre describes a paid partnership label that discloses the business partner on branded content, and creators can apply for access to it within the app. Instagram's help centre explains that you give a creator permission to tag your business, which then lets that content be used for a partnership ad.
Meta also describes partnership ad permissions, granted by the creator and revocable at any time — so agree this in writing before the post goes up, not after.
How do I pick a creator?
- Audience fit over follower count — 5,000 right people beat 200,000 wrong ones
- Check the comments, not the likes — real conversation or bots?
- Ask for recent results from similar brands
- Agree usage rights up front — how long can you run it as an ad?
How do I judge it?
Give each creator a unique link or code so the result is attributable, and compare it to your normal cost per sale. If you can't measure it, treat it as awareness spend and budget accordingly.
