What is technical SEO?
Technical SEO is the behind-the-scenes work that lets Google find, crawl and index your pages properly. If it's broken, great content can still be invisible, because Google never reaches it.

What's the minimum Google needs?
Google's technical requirements page lists three things a page needs to be eligible for indexing:
- Googlebot isn't blocked from the page.
- The page works: it returns an HTTP 200 (success) status.
- It has indexable content that doesn't break Google's spam policies.
Google adds that meeting these doesn't guarantee indexing.
What does technical SEO usually cover?
| Area | What it means (per Google Search Central) |
|---|---|
| robots.txt | Tells crawlers which URLs they can access; not a way to keep a page out of Google |
| Sitemap | A file listing your pages and files; helps, but doesn't guarantee every page gets indexed |
| Canonical URLs | When the same content sits on several URLs, Google picks one as the main version; you can hint which with rel="canonical" |
| Mobile | Google uses the mobile version of your site for indexing and ranking |
| Speed and stability | Measured by Core Web Vitals |
| Structured data | Code that helps Google understand the page; see schema markup |
How do I check mine?
Start with Google Search Console. It's free and shows which pages are indexed and what's blocking the rest: see what is Google Search Console.
Does it matter if I mostly run ads?
Yes. A slow or broken page wastes paid clicks too, which is why your landing page matters when you pay for ads.
