How much does it cost to hire a digital marketing agency?
There is no single price, because you are always paying two separate bills: the ad budget that goes to Meta, TikTok, Snapchat or Google, and the management fee that goes to the agency. Any quote that merges the two into one number is hiding which is which.

What are the two costs?
| Cost | Who gets it | How it's set |
|---|---|---|
| Media budget | The platform (Meta, Google, TikTok, Snap) | You choose it, and it's spent on your behalf |
| Management fee | The agency | Flat monthly, a percentage of spend, or per project |
| Creative production | The agency or a freelancer | Often separate — ask |
How are agency fees usually priced?
- Flat monthly retainer — the most common, and the easiest to compare between companies
- Percentage of ad spend — simple, but it quietly rewards the agency for spending more of your money
- Per project — suits one campaign, a launch or a season rather than ongoing work
- Performance-based — sounds fair, but only works when sales can be tracked cleanly
What should I ask before agreeing to a price?
- What exactly is in the fee, and what is charged separately?
- Who owns the ad account, the pixel and the creative when we stop?
- How many new creatives do I get each month?
- What number are we judged on, and when do we review it?
Because Google Ads Help explains that price per click comes out of an auction — your bid, ad relevance and landing page quality combined — better work genuinely costs less per result. So compare agencies on what they produce, not on their fee alone.
