Is a Facebook ad account free?
Yes — setting one up costs nothing. Meta doesn't sell access to Ads Manager; it sells delivery. You pay only when your ads are actually shown, and only up to the budget you set.

What costs nothing?
| Free | Costs money |
|---|---|
| Creating a Facebook Page | Running an ad |
| Creating a Meta Business account | Nothing else |
| Creating an ad account | |
| Building campaigns and saving them | |
| Installing the pixel on your website | |
| Using the Meta Ad Library |
You can build an entire campaign, look at the estimated audience size, and never publish it — and you will not be charged a fils.
So when does the charging start?
The moment ads start delivering. Meta bills for impressions or clicks depending on how the ad set is configured, and it never spends more than the budget you set — see how much budget to start with.
Two things worth knowing: Meta may spend up to 75% over your daily budget on a strong day, but it evens out across the week, so you never pay more than seven times your daily budget in a week.
Is there a minimum I must spend?
Meta's guidance is to start at $5 a day or more and run for over six days, so its system has enough data to work with. That's a recommendation for results, not a fee you owe.
Why does my account show zero spend then?
Because the ad isn't delivering, not because it's free. Check the delivery column — see how to know if your Facebook ads are running.
