Which Meta campaign objective should I choose?

Pick the objective that matches the result you actually get paid for, because Meta then optimises for that result and you can't change it later. For chat-based selling, use Engagement with WhatsApp messaging. For a website with a checkout, use Sales with the Meta Pixel installed.

What are the objectives?

Meta's help centre groups Ads Manager objectives into six choices:

Objective What Meta optimises for Good for
Awareness Being seen by many people New brands, launches
Traffic Clicks to a link Blog, offer page
Engagement Messages, video views, likes WhatsApp enquiries
Leads Form fills or chats Services collecting details
App promotion App installs Apps only
Sales Purchases Online stores

How do I choose, in practice?

  1. Ask what a "win" looks like. A WhatsApp chat? A purchase? A booking?
  2. Pick the objective named after that win. Meta then shows your ad to people most likely to do it.
  3. Make sure Meta can see the win. Sales needs the Pixel on your website. Messaging needs your WhatsApp number connected.

Why not always choose Awareness or Traffic?

Because Meta delivers what you ask for. Ask for traffic and you get clicks from people who like clicking, not buyers. Most wasted budget in Kuwait comes from asking for the wrong result.

What about ads that open WhatsApp?

Meta's help centre describes choosing Messaging apps under conversions, then WhatsApp, so the ad's button opens a chat. See how to run ads that open WhatsApp.

What comes next?

Give each new campaign time to settle before judging it. See how long to run a new ad.

Quick follow-ups

  • No. Meta locks the objective once a campaign is created, so you'd create a new campaign instead. Pick the objective that matches the result you're paid for.
