How do I know if my marketing agency is doing a bad job?
The clearest sign is a report you can't act on. If three months of reports never mention what a sale or enquiry cost you, the work isn't being measured — and unmeasured work usually isn't being improved either.

What are the warning signs?
| Sign | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| No cost per sale or per enquiry | Nothing can be judged without it |
| You can't access your own ad account | You lose everything if you leave |
| Same creative running for months | Performance decays — see ad fatigue |
| Reports led by reach and followers | Numbers that only ever go up |
| No questions about your margins | They can't know what a good cost looks like |
| Nothing changes month to month | Testing isn't happening |
| Tracking was never installed | Results are guesses |
What three questions settle it?
- What did a sale (or enquiry) cost us last month, and the month before? A good agency answers instantly.
- What did we test, and what did we learn? Testing should be named, not implied.
- What changes next month, and why? A plan, not a promise.
What if the answers are vague?
Ask for access to the ad account before doing anything else. Meta's help centre describes ad account roles and permissions, so a client having view access is ordinary, not a special favour. Once you can see spend and results yourself, the conversation becomes factual.
If the tracking was never set up, start there rather than changing agencies — Google Ads Help explains conversion tracking has to be defined and firing before any result can be attributed. See how to know which sale came from which ad.
