What is growth marketing?
Growth marketing is a way of doing marketing where you test ideas, measure what actually brings customers, and keep improving every step of the journey. It doesn't stop at getting a sale; it also works on bringing customers back and getting them to buy again.

How is it different from "normal" marketing?
Traditional marketing often focuses on one campaign and one goal, usually awareness or the first sale. Growth marketing looks at the whole funnel:
| Stage | Question growth marketing asks |
|---|---|
| Awareness | Which ad or message gets noticed? |
| Consideration | Which landing page or offer gets people interested? |
| Conversion | What stops people from buying? |
| Retention | How do we get them to buy again? |
If the funnel idea is new to you, read what a marketing funnel is.
How do you test properly?
Growth marketing runs on controlled tests. The ad platforms have tools for this:
- Meta A/B testing. According to Meta's Business Help Centre, you can create an A/B test in Ads Manager or in the Experiments tool, and it helps make sure audiences are split evenly so the results are comparable.
- Google Ads custom experiments. Google Ads Help says custom experiments let you test changes to campaigns such as Search, Display and Video, splitting traffic and budget between your original and a trial version before applying the change.

What about retention?
Winning back past customers is often cheaper than finding new ones. One tool: Meta lets you upload a customer list to create a custom audience, so you can show offers to people who already bought from you.
What does a growth marketer actually do each week?
Look at the numbers, pick the weakest step, run one test to fix it, measure, repeat. It's a habit more than a job title.
