Can I do my own digital marketing, or should I hire someone?
Yes, most owners can and probably should start on their own, because nobody knows your customers better and you'll learn what works. The time to hire is when marketing is eating hours you should spend running the business, or when your results have stopped improving.

What can a solo owner realistically do?
More than people think:
- Keep Instagram or TikTok active with phone-filmed content
- Set up a Google Business Profile and answer reviews
- Reply to messages and WhatsApp enquiries quickly
- Run a simple Meta ad with a small daily budget and one clear goal
The training is free. Meta Blueprint has free self-paced courses, and Google's Skillshop offers free Google Ads training. Read how to learn digital marketing yourself for free, and check how much budget you need to start Meta ads before you spend.
What usually gets hard?
| Sign | What it means |
|---|---|
| You post only when you remember | Content needs a system, not a mood |
| You can't tell which ad made sales | Tracking isn't set up properly |
| Spend is rising, results aren't | You need testing and fresh creative |
| Marketing takes your evenings | Your time now costs more than help |
When is it time to hire?
When at least two of those signs are true, or when you want to spend more on ads than you're comfortable managing. You don't need to hand everything over: many owners keep content and customer replies, and hire for ads, tracking and creative. Compare the routes in agency vs in-house marketing.
What should I keep doing myself either way?
Knowing your numbers. Even if someone else runs the ads, you should know what you spend, what you sell and what a customer costs you. That is what keeps any helper honest.
