Can I learn digital marketing myself for free?
Yes. Google, Meta and TikTok each run free official training on their own ad platforms, and it's good enough to take you from zero to running your first campaigns. The real challenge isn't learning. It's finding time to run, test and fix ads every week.

Where can I learn for free?
| Platform | What it teaches | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Google Skillshop | Google Ads, Google Analytics, and the Fundamentals of Digital Marketing course | Free courses; foundational certifications free |
| Meta Blueprint | Facebook and Instagram ads | Free self-paced courses; certification exams paid |
| TikTok Academy | TikTok ads: creative, measurement, ad policy | Free to register |
A note on Google Digital Garage: Skillshop Help says the old platform was retired in 2025. Its Fundamentals of Digital Marketing course has moved to Skillshop in an updated form.
What order should I learn it in?
- The basics of one platform: how the ads manager works and how budgets work.
- Tracking: how to tell which ad made a sale.
- Creative and copy: what makes someone stop scrolling.
- Testing: changing one thing at a time.
Two good starting points here: how to use Meta Ads Manager and how Google Ads actually works.
What's the catch?
Courses teach the buttons. They don't teach judgement: when to stop an ad, which number to trust, or why sales dropped this week. That comes from practice, and practice takes hours most business owners don't have. A sensible path is to learn enough to understand the reports, then decide whether to run it yourself or hand it over.
How do I practise without wasting money?
Start with a small daily budget on one platform, run it for a set period, and write down what you changed and what happened. That notebook teaches more than any certificate.
