What's a good llms.txt example? (with a free template)
A good llms.txt is short: one H1 with your business name, a one-line summary in a quote block, then H2 sections listing your most important pages as links. Below is a template you can copy, fill in, and upload to your domain's root today.

The format, exactly as the spec defines it
llmstxt.org's specification (proposed by Jeremy Howard, updated 10 August 2026) lays out five parts, in order:
- An H1 with your site or business name — the only required part
- A blockquote with a short summary
- Optional plain paragraphs with extra context
- H2 sections (e.g. "Services", "Docs") listing links:

Does anyone actually read it?
Not Google Search — its own AI features documentation says no special AI text files are needed to appear in AI Overviews. llmstxt.org itself states that OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini each publish an llms.txt for their own developer docs, and Chrome's Lighthouse Agentic Browsing audit checks for one at your domain root. Treat it as a cheap, useful addition — not a guaranteed traffic source.
