How do I market my business on Instagram?

To market your business on Instagram, set up a professional business account, post useful content on a steady plan, and check your insights to see what works. Then put a paid budget behind the posts and offers that already get a response.

Step 1: What account do I need?

Switch to a professional account. Instagram's Help Center says you need a professional (business or creator) account to advertise, and that professional accounts get a dashboard showing reach, engagement and audience insights. For a shop, clinic or service, a business account is usually the right choice. See business vs creator account.

Step 2: What should I post?

Instagram for Business lists the main places your content can live: Reels, Stories and the feed, plus Direct messages, shops and branded content. A simple mix:

Format Good for
Reels Reaching people who don't follow you yet
Stories Daily updates, offers, questions and polls
Feed posts Your menu, prices, results and reviews
Direct messages Answering questions and taking orders

Plan a few weeks ahead so you post consistently. A content calendar helps.

Step 3: How do I know what's working?

Open your professional dashboard and look at reach and engagement per post. Make more of what people save, share and message you about, and drop what gets ignored.

Step 4: When should I add ads?

Organic posts alone grow slowly. Instagram's Help Center says you can boost posts, Reels and Stories from the app, or use Ads Manager for full control over goals, audiences and budgets. Start small, test two or three versions, and track sales or messages, not just likes. For budgets, see whether Instagram ads are worth it.
