OpenAI's own description: ChatGPT "can turn requests into one or more search queries, retrieve relevant results, and use those results to generate an answer with links to sources." At launch, OpenAI said it combined real-time web search with content from news and data partners.

If OAI-SearchBot is blocked, your pages simply can't be surfaced or cited in ChatGPT's search answers, regardless of anything else you do.
What else plausibly helps
OpenAI hasn't published a ranking-factor list, but the mechanism it describes — retrieving pages and writing an answer with cited links — favours pages that state facts clearly and are actually crawlable and indexed by search engines generally. It's reasonable to treat this as sitting on top of normal SEO, not replacing it.
