How does Google Ads payment work?
Google Ads either charges you after your ads run (postpay, formerly "automatic payments") or takes your money upfront and uses it up as ads run (prepay, formerly "manual payments"). Which settings and payment methods you can choose depends on your country and currency.

What are the payment settings?
According to Google Ads Help:
| Setting | How it works |
|---|---|
| Postpay (automatic) | Your ads run first; Google charges you on the 1st of the month or when you hit your payment threshold, whichever comes first |
| Prepay (manual) | You add money before ads run; your credit goes down as you spend, and ads stop when it runs out |
| Monthly invoicing | A credit line for eligible businesses, paid by monthly invoice; Google lists requirements such as business history and spend |
What is the billing threshold?
On postpay, the threshold is the amount that triggers a charge. Google explains it starts at a set amount (which varies by account, country and currency) and can rise automatically each time you reach it before the month ends. So a busy account may be charged several times a month, sometimes for slightly more than the threshold.
Which payment methods can I use?
Google lists options like credit and debit cards, bank accounts and others, but says availability depends on your country, currency and payment setting. Google doesn't publish a Kuwait-specific list on its Ads help pages, so the reliable way is to open Billing in your Google Ads account and see what it offers you.
Any tips?
- Set daily budgets you're comfortable seeing doubled on a single day.
- Check Billing > Summary regularly so charges never surprise you.
- On postpay you can still make a manual payment to cover part of your balance early, which Google says can delay when your main payment method is charged.
